MANILA – Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos should not be in a hurry in his quest to be president, former President Fidel Ramos advised Tuesday.
Ramos, a key player in the People Power Revolution that toppled the dictatorship of Bongbong’s father Ferdinand, said the younger Marcos has plenty of time to aim for the country’s top post because he is only 59 years old.
“He can work up to the presidency in due time but please don’t be in a hurry,” Ramos said during a forum with the Inquirer Group on Tuesday.
The former president did not elaborate on his advise but Marcos Jr. ran for the vice presidency in the 2016 elections and lost narrowly to now Vice President Leni Robredo.
While awaiting the results of his electoral case against Robredo, Marcos and his family staged a secret burial for the late strongman at the heroes’ cemetery, a move some see as a power play by the former first family.
